Local Voices Dominate as 93 % of Top LATAM Podcasts Speak Native Languages, Led by News Programming
NUEVA YORK, NUEVA YORK - 25 DE NOVIEMBRE DE 2025 - Triton Digital®, the global technology and services provider to the digital audio, podcast and broadcast radio industries, today announced the release of its 2025 LATAM Audio Insights Report, a comprehensive analysis of listening behaviors and market trends across Latin America.
Drawing from Triton Digital’s Podcast Metrics and Webcast Metrics data from January through August 2025, the report highlights how local-language content, mobile listening, and legacy media publishers are shaping one of the fastest-growing audio markets in the world.
"When we look at the data, what really stands out is how mature the LATAM podcast ecosystem has become," said Oscar Sermeño, Triton Digital's Vice President of Market Strategy for the Americas. "News taking the lead against all other genres shows audiences are turning to on-demand audio for real information and connection. It's not a niche behavior anymore, it's mainstream. What we're seeing is that listeners are loyal, they're mobile, and they're listening in their own language."
Key Findings From the Report
● News leads all podcast genres, representing 35 % of total LATAM listening - more than double Comedy (14 %) and ahead of Fiction, Society & Culture, and Sports (each 8 %). Education, True Crime, Religion & Spirituality, Business, Health & Fitness, and History each represent 3-5 %.
● Portuguese-language content dominates with 51 % of all ranked podcasts, followed by Spanish 42 % — together representing 93 % of the LATAM rankers.
● Spotify leads in new episode RSS downloads with 32 % of share, followed by Apple Podcasts (13 %) and Google Chrome (10 %).
● Prisa Radio, Radios Grupo Globo and Grupo Globo top the sales network rankings, combining for more than 4,60 million average weekly downloads across the region. Other top networks include Audioboom, BBC, Folha de S Paulo, Grupo BluRadio, Adsmovil Audio Network, Grupo Acir and MVS Radio
● Streaming metrics from January–August 2025 show consistent growth across major publishers, with average active sessions surpassing 100 000,00 at the top-ranked network.
Together, these findings point to a region that has moved beyond early-stage adoption and into a fully developed digital audio economy — one defined by scale, local voices, and trusted news formats.
“For advertisers and publishers, the takeaway is that Latin America’s podcast audiences are large, engaged and ready for sophisticated monetization,” Sermeño added.
